Yoga with Diane

Diane is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, a dedicated student and practitioner of yoga for over 18 years, and has been teaching weekly classes at the Belhaven Surf Centre in Dunbar since 2019. Diane has travelled to India to study at the Ramanani Iyengar Yoga Institute and has attended weekly advanced classes with the institute since 2020 as well as weekly attendance at an advanced class in Edinburgh with senior teachers.

Diane welcomes students of all ages, genders, and abilities, believing that yoga is accessible to everyone. Flexibility, strength, age, or previous experience are not barriers to practice. Through the Iyengar method, postures are adapted to suit the individual, often using props such as blocks, belts, bolsters, and chairs to support safe and effective learning. Diane teaches both indoor classes and, during the warmer months, outdoor sessions.

Iyengar Yoga is known for its emphasis on precision, alignment, and mindful awareness. Through the practice of postures (asana) and breathwork (pranayama), students develop a deeper understanding of their bodies, minds, and breathing patterns. The practice can improve strength, mobility, balance, posture, and resilience, while also helping to calm the nervous system and improve focus.

Diane encourages students to work with their bodies as they are today, approaching challenges safely and progressively. Through regular practice, students often experience greater confidence, self-awareness, and a deeper sense of wellbeing.

For Diane, yoga is a lifelong journey of learning and self-discovery. Her aim is to help students build a sustainable practice that supports their individual needs and fosters strength, balance, and a positive relationship with both body and mind.
